My Favorite Film Stocks

Favorite Film Stocks

If you are new to film and you are lost in terms of what film to buy here are a few of my favorites! These are also in my opinion the most user friendly types of film to buy, aka the easiest to get accurate tones on. (If you are new to film, film stocks refers to the type of film emulsion that is on the roll you purchase.)

Kodak Porta 400: My go to for color! Has nice warm under tones, and a balanced neutral color palette. Also very easy to get accurate skin tones. It's a versatile film stock that produces stunning colors and works well in both bright and low light situations. Its fine grain structure also produces sharp, detailed images. This film is perfect for portraits and everyday photography.

Kodak Tri-X 400: (Black & White Film) smoothhhh tones, great for low contrast portraiture, and ideal for dimly lit subjects. Also great for push and pull development. If you're interested in shooting film with a vintage look, I suggest trying out Kodak Tri-X 400. This film stock has been around for over 60 years and has a classic, timeless feel. It's perfect for capturing moody, high-contrast images and is a favorite among film photographers.
